Job description:

Overall Job Purpose

To assist the Principal Hydrogeologist in implementing Hydrogeological activities and to ensure a high level of data collection, site supervision and coverage. The role requires core hydrogeological skills to provide inputs as well as support in developing, reviewing and conducting activities relating to the groundwater system.

Specific Job Responsibility

  • Apply knowledge of fundamental geology to develop an understanding of how rock types and structure impact groundwater occurrence and its associated movement
  • Understand and interpret maps, geographical data, historical evidence and models to build a conceptual understanding of the groundwater regime
  • Groundwater flow modelling and model maintenance
  • Undertake field-work for investigative and monitoring purposes
  • Design and commission boreholes
  • Sample and measure groundwater as well as surface water
  • Liaise with principal hydrogeologist, technicians and other professionals in related fields
  • Report writing, which can be understood by people who don’t necessarily have a technical background
  • Implementing and supervising test-pumping programs
  • Answer technical queries and provide advice to stakeholders
  • Work within stringent health and safety guidelines.
