About the role

Occupational Health and Safety Institute (OHSI) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security established under the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 16 of 2025, has its main Offices situated in Kitwe with two branch offices in Solwezi and Lusaka. In addition to the 3 centres, the Institute also offers occupational health and safety (OHS) services to all the sectors throughout the country on outreach basis. The Institute is looking for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following positions of;

BIOMEDICAL SCIENTIST [1 POSITION]

JOB OBJECTIVE

To undertake the provision of diagnostic biomedical laboratory services to support medical surveillance and facilitate decision-making

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertakes effectively the provision of routine laboratory tests services in order to support medical surveillance and facilitate decision-making;
  • Conduct customized laboratory tests tailored to specific occupational exposures in order to facilitate comprehensive health monitoring and decision making;
  • Undertake effectively the laboratory quality management system in order to ensure analytical and diagnostic services comply with ISO standards for quality assurance;
  • Undertake effectively the recording of and reporting of laboratory data and results in order to facilitate easy retrieval and decision making;

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Grade 12 School Certificate or relevant qualification;
  • Diploma in Biomedical Sciences;
  • 5 Years pre-job experience;
  • Registered Member of the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ);
  • Good communication Skills;
  • Able to write technical reports; and
  • Computer literate, sober habits, trustworthy, leadership, honesty and integrity
