About the role
Job Overview
Chief Accountant is a middle management role that is part of the Finance. The incumbent will be responsible for daily operational duties of the Finance department in collaboration with the Branches and Mobile money unit.
The Chief Accountant will ensure adherence to AMZ policies and procedures in the carrying out of his duties and those reporting to him. Further, he will support the CFO in formulating and implementing strategies in the department.
Summary Key Responsibilities
- Review and post journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded in accounting software to company policy.
- Review monthly accruals, non-credit income calculations and IFRS16 bookings.
- Review bank, vault, mobile money and petty cash reconciliations.
- Preparation of monthly/yearly closings and audit.
- Preparation of IFRS Financial Statements (yearly).
- Preparation and review of monthly management accounts and preparation of annual CIT declaration.
- Preparation of quarterly prudential returns.
- Preparation and review of lender/shareholder reports.
- Review of Fixed asset accounting and respective policies.
- Preparation of departmental budgets and variance analysis.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements in alignment with local government standards, tax, and other local regulations.
- Maintain proper controls to ensure compliance with company accounting policies and procedures.
- Participation in cash flow planning and management.
- Generating and implementing processes to improve and automate daily work.
- Preparing weekly Branch activity monitoring reports.
- Provide support and leadership to subordinates.
- Perform any other activities as required by CFO.
