Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented, tech-savvy Accountant to manage the end-to-end financial accounting and transaction verification for our two overseas agribusiness subsidiaries located in Zambia (focusing on large-scale Avocado harvesting and Sugarcane cultivation) Both projects are based in Kawambwa district.
Operating in a Shared Services environment, you will serve as the final control gate. While transactions are initially parked by local teams on-site, your role is to verify the source documentation, perform Invoice Verification after Goods Receipt (GR), execute formal SAP postings, manage asset accounting, and handle month-end closures up to the Trial Balance (TB) level.

Roles and Responsibilities

1. SAP Data Verification & Postings (The Core Workflow)

  • Invoice Verification & Three-Way Matching: Review and audit parked vendor invoices against corresponding Purchase Orders (PO) and Goods Receipts (GR) in SAP to ensure accurate pricing, quantities, and terms.
  • General Ledger (GL) Management: Formally post verified parked transactions relating to domestic and international purchases, farm operating expenses, and vendor payments.
  • Bank Reconciliation Statements (BRS): Prepare timely and accurate weekly/monthly bank reconciliations for overseas bank accounts, identifying and resolving any outstanding clearing entries or foreign exchange variances.
  • Revenue Recognition: Ensure revenue from agricultural yield sales is recognized accurately in the correct accounting period, factoring in any quality-based price adjustments or transit terms (Incoterms) for export shipments.
  • Accounts Receivable (AR) & Customer Reconciliation: Monitor open customer balances, record incoming payments/remittances from local mills and international buyers, and perform periodic customer ledger reconciliations.
  • Credit Memo & Dispute Management: Process and verify any credit notes or adjustments arising from weight shortages, crop damage during transit, or quality downgrades by the buyers.
  • Coordinating with the plant team: should be in constant contact with the plant team for regular activities like three-way matching process, getting daily / weekly reports, physical verification of stores, inventory etc.
  • Capex Vs Opex bifurcation: Demonstrate strong knowledge to evaluate, categorize and bifurcate expenditures between Capex & Opex. Ensure all verified documents are posted to correct GL accounts, cost centres, internal orders etc.

2. Agribusiness & Asset Accounting (Specialized Functions)

  • Asset Accounting: Handle the capitalization, depreciation tracking, and disposal entries of fixed assets (e.g., harvesting machinery, irrigation systems, farm vehicles, and processing equipment) in the SAP Asset Register.
  • Biological Asset Exposure: Assist in tracking inventory and costs related to biological assets (avocado orchards and sugarcane plantations) from nursery stages through harvesting cycles.
  • Inter-Company Reconciliations: Reconcile transaction flows, fund transfers, and cost allocations between the parent company and the two Zambian entities.

3. Period-End Closure & Reporting

  • Trial Balance Finalization: Execute month-end and quarter-end closing activities in SAP, ensuring all accruals, prepayments, and provisions are correctly accounted for to present a clean Trial Balance.
  • Document Control & Audit Readiness: Maintain impeccable digital trails of all overseas invoices, shipping documents, customs clearances, and bank advices to support internal and statutory audits.

Technical & Behavioral Competencies

Technical Skills:

  • SAP Mastery: Deep familiarity with SAP FI (General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Asset Accounting) and MM (Material Management - invoice verification/GR codes) interfaces.
  • Advanced MS Excel: Proficiency in excel (Pivot Tables, and financial data formatting)
  • Accounting Standards: Good understanding of foundational accounting principles (IFRS/Ind AS), particularly around inventory valuation and expense matching.

Behavioural Skills:

  • Cross-Border Coordination: Ability to maintain a polite yet assertive communication style when requesting missing documentation from remote farm supervisors or local warehouse teams in Zambia.
  • Analytical Precision: A sharp eye for identifying discrepancies between physical delivery notes, invoices, and digital system entries.
  • Time Management: Capable of prioritizing workflow to meet strict monthly books-closure timelines.
