About the role

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Industrial Hygienist - LEP (Fixed Term) to join the Lumwana Expansion Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator - LEP, you will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and controlling workplace health hazards to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Generating Similar Exposure Groups (SEGs) and formulating Sampling Plans.
  • Conducting Noise, Dust, Illumination, Radiation, Vibration, and VOC monitoring and other occupational exposure monitoring.
  • Identifying occupational health hazards and recommending appropriate engineering, administrative, and personal protective controls.
  • Ensuring employee awareness of occupational health and safety concerns, programs, and regulations by conducting training and presentations.
  • Implementing corrective actions and suspending operations if required.
  • Advising and collaborating with management to resolve occupational health issues.
  • Creating and executing studies to monitor and assess employees' exposure to health risks and to measure the effectiveness of occupational health programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Proposing and leading the implementation of programs to protect employee health and implementing ergonomics.
  • Advising various parties on workers' compensation claims pertaining to workplace exposures.
  • Conducting training for on and off-site awareness for the Project Team employees, contractors, and the surrounding communities when needed.
  • Conducting Food Safety and Hygiene Audits.
  • Administer the Personal Exposure Assessment Programs (Chemical and Physical stressors).
  • Conduct workplace and personal exposure monitoring and identify jobs that may need to be monitored with engineering controls or personnel monitoring equipment.
  • Notify employees who wear monitoring devices and those in a similar exposure group (SEG) of the monitoring results.
  • Prepare reports on hazardous substances and processes to apprise management of audit findings and support their decision-making.
  • Conduct training and awareness sessions regularly for special occupational Hazards such as Noise, Vibration, dust exposure, and control Hazardous Communication.
