About the role

Role Purpose

The Child Protection and Gender Technical Specialist will provide strategic direction, technical support, and capacity building in Child Protection and Gender Equality across SCI Zambia’s programmes. This role involves ensuring that CP and Gender are integrated into all aspects of programme design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. The Specialist will also be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, and local partners.

Key Accountabilities

  • Technical Leadership and Support:
    • Provide technical expertise and guidance on Child Protection and Gender Equality to programme teams.
    • Develop and adapt CP and Gender tools, resources, and training materials to ensure alignment with best practices and SCI standards.
    • Support the development of high-quality programme proposals and reports, ensuring CP and Gender considerations are integrated.
  • Capacity Building:
    • Design and deliver training and capacity building programmes for SCI staff and partners on CP and Gender.
    • Provide coaching and mentoring to programme staff to enhance their skills and knowledge in CP and Gender.
    • Identify and address capacity gaps in CP and Gender within SCI Zambia.
  • Programme Integration:
    • Work closely with programme teams to integrate CP and Gender into all stages of the programme cycle.
    • Conduct CP and Gender analysis to inform programme design and implementation.
    • Monitor and evaluate the integration of CP and Gender into programmes, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, international organizations, and local partners.
    • Represent SCI Zambia in CP and Gender forums and working groups.
    • Advocate for the rights of children and gender equality at local and national levels.
  • Research and Advocacy:
    • Conduct research on CP and Gender issues in Zambia to inform programme development and advocacy efforts.
    • Contribute to the development of advocacy strategies to promote child protection and gender equality.
    • Disseminate research findings and best practices through publications, presentations, and workshops.

Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in Child Protection and Gender Equality in an international development context.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Child Protection and Gender Equality principles, standards, and approaches.
  • Experience in designing and delivering training and capacity building programmes.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).
  • Knowledge of the Zambian context and legal framework related to Child Protection and Gender Equality.

Desirable

  • Experience working with government agencies and local partners in Zambia.
  • Experience in conducting research and advocacy on Child Protection and Gender Equality issues.
  • Familiarity with SCI’s policies and procedures.
