About the role
Nanga Farms Limited, a large, irrigated sugarcane estate situated 25Km Northeast of Mazabuka in the Southern Province of Zambia, is a subsidiary of Zambia Sugar Plc and part of the ABF Sugar Group. Its main activities are the cultivation of 2,860 hectares of sugarcane and the rearing of 1,400 head of cattle. The Company now invites applications from suitably qualified Persons to fill the position of:
Artisan Fitter x1 – Permanent
Permanent Role Reporting to – Irrigation Foreman-Mechanical
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of mechanical and irrigation equipment on a continuous basis and take responsibility for failures resulting from inadequate equipment specific inspection.
- Undertakes troubleshooting and root cause analysis (RCA) process.
- Ensure the Job Plan / Checklist on the WO is diligently followed as per the work-order tasks.
- Execute work and resources for-stop day-, shut down and off-crop jobs and communication to the supervisor on what is required to be done and progress daily.
- Assist in drawing materials from Stores and signing of material gate passes.
- Liaise with centre pivot and pump station operators when carrying out maintenance work and handover.
- Maintaining adequate house-keeping standards in all workstations.
- Undertake standby duties and call outs as and when instructed by the Foreman or according to set roster.
- Reporting any accidents immediately through the normal reporting procedure.
- Ability to carry out Safety inspections for all mechanical and irrigation equipment.
- Identify personal learning and development needs and coach and mentor other maintenance workers.
- Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues.
- Promotes and adheres to business’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
Knowledge & Skills Required
- Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
- Knowledge of safety regulations, and safety practices.
- Good written and verbal communication
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Craft Certificate in Water Supply/Craft Certificate in Agriculture Mechanics.
- Minimum of two years’ post qualifying experience in a similar position.
- Good interpersonal skills, personal organization as well as high level of integrity are required.
- Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates verified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
